Mack Maine Addresses Lil Wayne’s Sentence, Albums [Video]

In the video above, Mack Maine, the president of Young Money, speaks to AllHipHop.com. He talks about Lil Wayne’s sentence to a year in jail, as well as the upcoming year with Cash Money, Young Money, and Lil Wayne releases. Read what AllHipHop wrote below:

Jail time may be imminent for Lil Wayne, but it’s business as usual for the rap star’s Young Money record label and crew.

According to the label’s president Mack Maine, all efforts are geared toward releasing new material from Young Money’s stable of artists as well as maintaining its current standing in the eyes of rap fans.

The label is currently enjoying the success and buzz generated by rapper Drake. The Canadian artist is set to release his highly-anticipated album, Thank Me Later, next year.

“My main focus and priority right now [is the] Young Money album December 15,” Mack Maine told AllHipHop.com, while mentioning future releases from Lil Wayne and Cash Money artists such as Baby and Jay Sean. “Rebirth, December 15. Baby album, November. 23. That’s the main shit. Jay Sean, November 23 too. So that’s what I’m worried about right now.”

The arrival of the Young Money albums comes as Lil Wayne prepares to serve time in prison, after pleading guilty last week to attempted weapons possession. The plea was the result of a 2007 incident when authorities stopped the rapper’s tour bus after a concert in New York.

Lil Wayne faces a year in jail from that case. Despite, the circumstances, Mack Maine mentioned that Lil Wayne is “good.”

“We ain’t even looking at that. We just making sure everything goes straight with these new projects and making sure we eating.’ Keep it moving,” the executive stated. “No matter what, we wake up everyday expecting the unexpected. So nothing come to us as a surprise. You just gotta move through adversity, you know.”

Mack Maine is hopeful things will work out to quicken Lil Wayne’s return after he begins his sentence in February.

“It’s supposed to be eight months, but you know how that go,” the rapper/music executive said. “They can get that cut down. Hopefully he won’t have to do the whole eight.”

Lil Wayne’s attachment to Young Money has provided a bridge towards the label’s alliance with Louisiana-based Cash Money Records, a union Mack Maine sees as beneficial to both parties well as Drake and fellow Young Money artists Nicki Minaj, Gudda Gudda, Jae Millz, Lil Twist, Lil Chuckee, Shanell, Tyga. Short Dawg and T-Streets.

“You combine Young Money with Cash Money, that’s crazy. They got Jay Sean, Kevin Rudolf, Bow Wow. You got some other artists too that’s about to come out,” Mack Maine told AllHipHop.com. “You got so much diversity in different genres, we just about to take over,” said Mack Maine, who sees infinite possibilities for Young Money in the coming months while predicting the label will go “somewhere it’s never been taken, somewhere we never went.”

“I don’t know where we gonna land. Hopefully, we never land,” he added as he encouraged fans to pick up Gudda Gudda’s upcoming mixtape, Bills, as well as Tyga’s soon to be released effort Black Thoughts.

“Keep going though, no ceilings. That’s the name of the new [Lil Wayne] mixtape that just leaked. So if it’s no ceilings, what’s the top? There is no top.”

Rapper Drake Reacts To Lil Wayne’s Jail Sentence

Not even jail time can faze Lil Wayne. The rap superstar is keeping his head up in the wake of his expected year behind bars over attempted gun possession. He is scheduled to be formally sentenced in February. Wayne’s Young Money affiliate Drake speaks exclusively with Rap-Up.com about how his friend is coping with the news and how he’ll be holding down the fort when his boss takes leave.

Weezy is not dwelling on his impending prison stint and is instead using his time to focus on what he does best, making music and money. “He’s dealing with it well. Wayne’s not usually gonna open up emotionally and tell you how he’s really feeling about anything,” Drizzy tells Rap-Up.com. “He’s kinda more concerned about getting as much music as he possibly can, so that when he’s in there, people are still satisfied musically with Lil Wayne product, and that’s just the mind of a true businessman.”

Drake, who’s set to release his debut album Thank Me Later early next year, will keep business booming in Weezy’s absence. “I’ll just do what I can to keep the whole Young Money/Cash Money team going, and I just want to play my part as a team member and keep the brand strong until the boss gets home.”

Despite the circumstances, Drizzy’s cohort remains in high spirits. “We spoke last night, but it wasn’t about that though. He was making jokes. He was in a good mood. He’s always in a good mood when he’s in the studio making music,” shares the 23-year-old Canadian. “He’s like superhuman. I don’t think anything could really break his concentration or his zone when he’s in there.”

The rappers will link up next week when Young Money shoots the video for “Bed Rock.” “I get to see him next week, so hopefully I’ll be able to gauge where he’s at mentally, but I think he’s alright.”

The sentencing came as a surprise to Drake, but he believes the end result will be beneficial. “I definitely didn’t think this would be the outcome of it, but I hope it will add to him selling a million records again.” He has faith that Wayne can turn a negative into a positive. “It’s an unfortunate situation and I hope that he’ll be able to position it where his release is a day where everyone’s excited and they’re just excited about his new album. I hope he manages to market it the right way.”

Before he checks into prison, Lil Wayne will drop his long-awaited Rebirth album and the Young Money compilation, We Are Young Money, on December 15. A leaked version of his mixtape No Ceilings is available now.
